‘Sob Story’ (Wichita)
In some kind of glorious alternate universe, Ben Howard works at Shoeworld and an ‘Olly Murs’ is slang for a particularly regrettable sex act. In this universe, Louis Jones – aka Spectrals – is Britain’s premier male soloist and, trust us, it is a far, far better world indeed. Following the nostalgia-soaked love songs of his debut with an album that ups the radio-friendly factor without compromising any emotion, the likes of ‘Milky Way’ or ‘Keep Your Magic Out Of My House’ pit simple, sweetened melodies with Jones’ Northern lilt and wide-eyed sentimentality. This is the kind of guy we should really be getting behind.
