Shout Out Louds

Shout Out Louds are a five-piece from Sweden, but on their fourth album they do a decent impression of a British indie-pop group from the 80s. The Cure and New Order are evidently touchstones, while the plinky, string-draped ‘Blue Ice’ sounds like it could show up on the Magic Radio playlist. Though there’s no faulting their commitment to sounding British (they name one track ‘Glasgow’, while on ’14th Of July’, singer Adam Olenius inquires, “Is she a natural blonde?” – not a question he’d ever have to ask back home) it’s their betrothal to making relentlessly pleasant music that ultimately dulls this record’s sheen. In the end, it’s all a little too demure to really shout out loud about.
