‘Allah-Las’ (Innovative Leisure)
Bruised by the disappointment and melancholy of the broken hearted, Allah-Las’ debut represents the cathartic release of four relationships breaking down at the same time. With all the LA band’s members embroiled in failing romance, their first is an honest snapshot of the downsides of love. ‘Vis-A-Vis’ is all yearning nostalgia for dissipated feelings, whilst closer ‘Long Journey’ finds singer Miles Michaud searching “the soul all over.” A record with one foot in the past, its 60s flavours ooze intelligent craft rather than cynical pastiche. A spectacular, modern take on a classic, timeworn formula.
