With a voice as sweet and breathy as a yé-yé chanteuse, Melody Prochet could have been a 60s French pop giant. But the Parisian singer was born too late for that. Instead, aided by boyfriend and producer Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, she’s taken all the playfulness of that decade and added scoops of fuzz and reverb to create an album of kaleidoscopic, technicolour psychpop. ‘Bisou Magique’ and ‘Be Proud Of Your Kids’, in particular, venture deep into the hauntological kingdom reigned over by Stereolab and Broadcast; Melody’s magic combination of dreamy sonics and saccharine vocals is an inexorable pleasure.
