'Fete D'Adieu'
By Will Fitzpatrick 26 Oct 2012

Sub-titled ‘Noise Jingles For Parties!’, Deerhoof’s eleventh album continues their long tradition of delighting and confounding in equal measure. This time they head into synth-drenchedr’n’b territory, with the opening catcall ‘Breakup Songs’ threatening a bumpy ride. Their luminescence prevails, however, particularly on sunspot-fl ecked dazzler ‘The Trouble With Candyhands’. Meanwhile, Satomi Matsuzaki is on electrifying form, bashfully intoning “Don’t make me fall in love with you again” over a maelstrom of swirling glitch-funk, before the dizzying smooch of ‘Fête D’Adieu’ signals the end. We leave the party drained yet smitten.
