‘Mac DeMarco 2’ ( Captured Tracks)

Mac DeMarco seems plenty cocksure. There’s a self-assured streak that keeps the 22-year-old Canadian’s second album on an even keel throughout. From the heatwave jam ‘Cooking Up Something Good’, via the beautiful wail he applies to ‘Still Together’, where he sounds like a stake-chained heretic, the atmos is reminiscent of a knackered cassette of David Bowie’s ‘Lodger’. Less insane are the hazy sun-basking ‘Ode To Viceroy’ (a love note to his favourite brand of cigarettes) and the languid ‘My Kind Of Woman’, two more hypnotic excursions on an album that’s sprinkled with magic.
