Moon Duo
‘Circles ’ (Southerrain Transmissions)
Swapping San Fran for an eyrie-like perch in the Rocky Mountains, the second full-length from motorik blues outfit Moon Duo is inspired by philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson’s essay on the prevalence of circles in nature. And if that sounds like less fun than calculating Pi to a hundred decimal places, it’s not really — though eight-minute behemoth ‘Rolling Out’ and ‘Free Action’’s endless harping on a major seventh chord are not for the faint of heart. Ultimately, though, such moments of purgatory only make tracks like the sweetly-countrifi ed title track and the blissful ‘Trails’ sound more like some kind of heaven.
