Toy
‘Toy’ (Heavenly Recordings)
Wisely sacking the spud-like indie of Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong for a sound that’s equal parts neopaisley swirl and stately motorik sweep, TOY’s debut offers a lesson in the art of, erm, un-selling out. Featuring three of the former band’s crew plus Alejandra Diez on keys and Charlie Salvidge on drums, the sunk-eyed posturing and glossy hair (we’re only jealous) owe a strong debt of influence to Ride, Neu! and the likes. But, if TOY are a gateway drug, you’ll be too high to care by the time this one’s done.
