Written with, and inspired by, Lambchop singer Kurt Wagner over ten years, ‘Oh No I Love You’ comes with the kind of grand back-story that generally leads to a divine masterpiece or a pretentious flop. In reality, it falls somewhere in the middle. Far more stripped back than the Charlatans frontman’s previous offerings, ‘Oh No…’ flits between affecting moments (the rather gorgeous ‘Hours’) and repetitive down-beaters (‘A Case For Vinyl’) that seem to go nowhere. Best, however, is when Burgess finds his inner Belle & Sebastian – buoying ‘The Graduate’ with a quintessentially English chirp that sits more than comfortably.
