Being a band is dead easy. Or at least that’s the way The Fresh & Onlys make it sound. This, their fourth full-length in as many years, proves the San Franciscans are a dependable force – something you’d hardly expect to attribute to four disheveled, supposed garage-rock slackers. But from the floating, dreamy-psych of ‘20 Days And 20 Nights’ to the grave, brass-bruised ‘Executioner’s Song’, ‘Long Slow Dance’ emerges as a woozy, sunbleached triumph. “The future is bright” repeats bewhiskered main man Tim Cohen on hazy, Hawaiian-tinged single ‘Presence Of Mind’. Tim, we totally agree.
