This Brooklyn trio described their 2010 debut as “everyone high fiving everyone” and aim to “elevate positivity as an art form”. ‘Major’ is a more refined second effort, but one that still holds true to the band’s promise of back-to-back hooks. Think Weezer and Guided By Voices after too many Tangfastics, as the playful tinkling pianos and buzzing guitars of ‘Kindergarten’ open the door to a heady world of soaring choruses, key changes, spiralling solos and punchy drums. They even attempt ceilidh reels – on ‘Dooney Rock’ and ‘Chompers’. It’s totally uncool, but we’re too giddy to care.
