After a year or so of plugging away around east London’s toilet circuit, Echo Lake have honed their strand of ethereal shoegaze into something intricate and layered enough to far outscale the hipsters-name-checking-My-Bloody-Valentine trap. Where, live, they deal in density, on ‘Wild Peace’ (especially in the fairground waltz of the title track or the sing-song haze of ‘In Dreams’) Linda Jarvis’ delicate vocal takes the foreground, offering light amongst the shady, swirling backing that surrounds it. It’s muggy and consuming in the way that using 96 effects pedals at once will be, but there’s a vital sweetness that shines through.
