‘Some Nights’ (Atlantic)

As you’d expect from a band whose last single spent SIX WHOLE WEEKS at the US #1 after also being covered by the cast of Glee, fun.’s second record is gregarious as heck. Queen-style rock theatrics are welded to Kanye West beats – courtesy of Yeezy’s producer Jeff Bhasker – while frontman Nate Ruess has thing for singing about his parents. Wait… come back! Against all odds, ‘Some Nights’ is a hoot: huge-sounding, packed with tunes and not lacking in humour. As new spins on the Queen sound go, it’s clearly preferable to watching Brian May tit about onstage with Adam Lambert…
