Following a lacklustre third album, Maximo Park return to the fast paced, high kicking ways that made us fall for them in the first place. ‘The National Health’ sees the Sunderland band rallying against modern society, substituting civil unrest for the romantic failings that once drove them. Initially it is exciting – the title track and ‘Hips And Lips’ pack a visceral punch – however, repeat plays reveal that ‘The National Health’ offers nothing particularly new; suggesting, perhaps, that this band’s lack of magnetism is somewhat terminal.

10 Jun 2012 1:41pmCan forgive the lack of geographical research (if there is any at all – I don't know nor care) but a five-line slagging for the album is less forgiving. For me, it's a four-star after two days worth of listening… and I think it's going to keep maturing. Wonderful stuff – the album not the review.
