Yukon Blonde played a commendable 10 shows at this year’s SXSW. Thus the Austin air is probably still rippling with the warm, valve-ampy purr of ‘Tiger Talk’, their affable second full-length. Tempering the pulsing rhythmic grunt of ‘My Sharona’ (see ‘Radio’) with the fl orid guitar work of Television and XTC (see ‘Iron Fist’), ‘Tiger Talk’ allows YB to earn their stripes as purveyors of plush, 70s-inspired powerpop. Yet not even the nasal harmonies of ‘Stairways’ come across as fusty. When you’re tired of twitching along to Grimes on the sleepless frontiers of future pop, YB offer some worthy respite.
