‘Sees The Light’ (Hardly Art)
Who’s ready for change? Katy Goodman’s debut album as La Sera saw her shedding the garage grit of the Vivian Girls in favour of lilting, janglified pop – one of the low-key treats of 2011. But pastures new have clearly beckoned, and this sophomore effort drops that harmonious swoon for a more direct approach. Opening with stoner groove ‘Love That’s Gone’, we then blast through ‘Please Be My Third Eye’s fuzzed-out powerpop, setting the stage nicely for further adventures in indie rock. It’s slicker than anything Katy’s done before – maybe not as long-term-lovable, but certainly worth living with for a while.
