Initially, this entirely acapella album is a chaos of four lads doing silly dodododoos and dumdumpapapa type noises. ‘Meantime’ opens it up and, divested of its original arrangement, proves distracting rather than satisfying. However, once you’ve grappled with the concept, ‘Rant’ reveals an intriguing character. Arguably, the several folk standards including ‘The Old Dun Cow’ and ‘Summer Is Icumen In’ work the best – they were designed to be vocal pieces. The Futureheads’ own songs are rendered a little schizo through the reworking. A strange, interesting, occasionally brilliant album, which also features covers of tracks by BEP, Kelis and Sparks.
