Since 2007, Leamington Spa’s Sharks have been treading that thin line between punk revivalists and a straight-up Clash tribute band. So it’s pleasantly surprising to hear frontman James Mattock has ditched the Joe Strummer-aping vocals and instead their debut is packed with good ol’ careening rock ‘n’ roll. And trading snot and anarchy for working class fist-pumpers suits them – ‘In Luck’ is all widescreen Gaslight Anthem-esque riffery, while ‘Arcane Effigies’ provokes a blue collar chant-along for the shy and oppressed. These are tracks made for the pub, to be bawled to with beating hearts and swollen lungs. Get involved.
