Having previously taken rank in Dum Dum Girls, Vivian Girls and Crystal Stilts, you’d be forgiven for casting a fair whack of presumption on Frankie Rose’s debut solo effort. However, aside from the hazy, reverby vocal, ‘Interstellar’ pays a far greater debt of influence to the melodramatic pop of the 80s than the garage stalk of her former glories. With nods to Fleetwood Mac and a hefty dose of synths, the likes of ‘Gospel/Grace’ and ‘Know Me’ are a refreshingly innovative take on the decade, and though it occasionally lacks a little heart, ‘Interstellar’ at least pushes Rose’s talents in an impressive and unexpected direction.
