The tenth Magnetic Fields album sees Stephin Merrit returning to both form and familiar territory. ‘Andrew In Drag’ manages to be grand and funny, while there’s a parallel universe somewhere in which the ludicrous rhymes of ‘Infatuation (With Your Gyration)’ ride triumphantly atop a huge dancefl oor smash. Though Stephin’s witty and verbose where merely heartfelt would suffice, making it difficult to engage beyond the surface, there’s ample reward for anyone fond of lines like “Let Laramie/Take care’a me/‘Til they bury me.”
