If Hayley Mary was prepared to ration her vocal pyrotechnics, The Jezabels could be onto something. The Aussie quartet have the right chiming, high-orbit guitar chops, stormy piano swirls and rumbling drums to absolutely nail emotional, atmospheric rock. They also have the ability to sound panoramic-yet-catchy, as pocket-sized stadium anthems ‘Endless Summer’ and ‘Rosebud’ demonstrate. The problem is, though, hysterical Hayley has a habit of super-soaking quite attractive melodies and well thought-out arrangements with her bewilderingly opulent singing. The Jezabels are so nearly there on ‘Prisoner’– they just to focus.
