‘NZCA/Lines’ (LOAF )

There was once a time when Michael Lovett was just one quarter of indie pop also-rans Your Twenties. Now, he’s gone it alone, morphing into a suave oneman-
band on a mission to make 2012 sexy. On ‘NZCA/Lines’, he achieves his goal, slipping from slick pop that transforms the mundane into sheer seductiveness (‘Okinawa Channels’), to monastic barbershop harmonies (‘AM Travel Approach’). The album reaches its amorous peak on ‘Base 64 Love’ though – a song that flirts with the notion of crossdressing whilst making formatting hard drives sound hot. Nothing, it seems, is beyond this guy’s powers.
