‘The Slideshow Effect ’ (Sub Pop)

What began as a Max Richter-inspired conceptual art collaboration between composer Evan Abeele and photographer Denise Nouvion resulted in the shimmering guitar pop of Memoryhouse. The Canadian duo’s debut album ‘The Slideshow Effect’ employs layers and layers of hazy riffs, strings and soft, subtle rhythms to shroud Nouvion’s lush vocals. ‘The Kids Were Wrong’, ‘Heirloom’, ‘Walk With Me’ and woozy ballads ‘All Our Wonder’, ‘Bonfi re’ and ‘Punctum’ are like your best daydreams become song, and there’s a nagging sense of melancholy throughout that gives these tracks a compelling and slightly haunting quality. Sofia Coppola, give them a call.
