The alter-ego of Nottingham-based songstress Katty Heath, Spotlight Kid is a project that fizzes and fuzzes like Pop Rocks and Coke. Awash with flurries of sweet but relentless feedback, this album bristles with a tangibly kinetic energy, from the frantic rush of opener ‘Plan Comes Apart’ through to the epic six minute shimmer of closer ‘Pulled Apart By Horses’. Merging light and dark, the sweet and the sinister, ‘Disaster Tourist’ is an other-worldly record that’s both out of place and time for Nottingham in 2011. But that’s what makes it so enjoyable. A sweet, sad record full of wide-eyed wonder and a charming, youthful naivety.
