Original Echo & The Bunnymen members Will Sergeant and Les Pattinson team up with drummer Nick Kilroe for Poltergeist, a new project whose debut ‘Your Mind Is A Box (Let Us Fill It With Wonder)’ arrives in June. Here, the trio present us with an exclusive listen to a track from the record, ‘Lune Deeps’. It’s great: a lilting, near-seven-minute instrumental which establishes a sort of unlikely middle ground between post punk and prog, with shades of Eno, Joy Division and the Bunnymen’s more psychedelic passages all present to these ears. Then again, perhaps it’s best left to the band to tell us what they think:

“We create a form of rock music with its toes paddling in the progressive ocean foam of the sixties and seventies and its head in the bone dry air of the present day” said Sergeant. ”We want to try and get away from the traditional band format of the line across the stage. There are 12 notes in a scale and we intend to use most of them.”

The band will play a handful of dates in March and June this year, details of which can be found below. ‘Your Mind Is A Box (Let Us Fill It With Wonder)’ is released on June 17 via Proper Records, but fans donating to the group’s Pledge account can get their mitts on it before that – head here for details.
