Drenge

Beat Pyramid’s New Band Of The Week #1

By The Fly 05 Nov 2012

Starting out as kids playing (by their own admission) “shit Keane covers to empty village halls and barn dances,” Sheffield’s Drenge have come a long way since. Now 19 and 21 respectively, brothers Rory and Eoin Loveless have ditched the second hand piano balladry and turned their attention to menacing, visceral riffs.

So far, that’s looking like a pretty good move. Of the three tracks available online (click above to hear them), each is pumped with a distinctive aggressive charm; three unrelenting firecrackers that will bury themselves deep in your brain.

For each song on their soundcloud, there’s an accompanying video – all filmed by the brothers in various locations around their home. ‘People In Love Make Me Feel Yuck’ heads to the supermarket, whilst the latest clip for ‘I Wanna Break You In Half’ follows the boys around the fields of the Hope Valley. By far the funniest and best, though, is ‘Dogmeat’, where the drunks and clubbers of Sheffield dance, pose and act out for the camera. Laugh now while you can because when Drenge are massive (as they undoubtedly should be), we’ll all be wishing that was us looking stupid in front of a phone box.
