Radkey, Rat Attack and The First have announced they will play a special show at …

Radkey, Rat Attack and The First have announced they will play a special show at the Barfly in London on the 19th of June. If you are bummed out because Download is over or didn’t get to go this year get down to Camden on the Wednesday after the festival and check out some emerging talent from the Download Festival 2013 bill.

RADKEY

“it’ll be one of those gigs they write about” - Zane Lowe, Radio 1

“if you want to love this band as much as we do get down to their show on June 19th” - Zane Lowe, Radio 1

Radkey is a punk band from St. Joseph, Missouri made up of three teenage brothers: Dee (19 years old), Isaiah (17 years old), and Solomon (15 years old). Inspired by the music they grew up listening to such as the Misfits, Ramones, the Who, and Death, the self-taught trio decided to form a band. They had the pleasure of opening for Fishbone, Local H and Supersuckers, performed at the 2012 Afro-punk Festival in Brooklyn NY and this year’s SXSW Festival. Look out for their new EP digitally available 16th of June.

RAT ATTACK (Exeter, South Devon) take their influences from the likes of Refused, The Bronx, The Hives, Murder City Devils, and The Beastie Boys. Live wise, the band have already toured Europe 4 times, and played over 300 UK shows supporting the likes of Lower Than Atlantis, Rancid and The Ghost of a Thousand. Rat Attack’s recent single has received huge radio support from Zane Lowe, Huw Stevens, Dan Carter, Mike Davies, XFM and Kerrang! Radio. Their self-titled debut EP is available online to all at a ‘pay what you want’ price, and it features the bands single ‘Heartbeat’, with guest vocals from Liam Cromby from We Are The Ocean:

THE FIRST

The First are a melodic rock band from Wisbech, Cambridgeshire with a refreshingly powerful and mature sound. Their instantly memorable choruses, vicious guitar lines and progressive rhythmic patterns blend with The First’s ability to tear up stages to create a blisteringly energetic live show. After touring the UK and Europe for the last two years in support of their debut release “Swimming with Sharks”; they are ready to burst back onto the scene with their second album ‘Take Courage’, which will be out in summer 2013.

Spaced-out Reading dreamers Tripwires announce their debut album ‘Spacehopper’ due for release on 18th June …

Spaced-out Reading dreamers Tripwires announce their debut album ‘Spacehopper’ due for release on 18th June through Frenchkiss Records (The Antlers, Bloc Party, Les Savy Fav).

It’s no surprise Tripwires spent the last six years refining their sound in Reading. Being from a truly sleepy commuter town has let the band develop their debut album, the aptly titled ‘Spacehopper’, on their own terms. Or as the longtime friends (frontman Rhys Edwards, guitarist Joe Stone, bassist Ben White and drummer Sam Pilsbury) put it, “A lot of people live here a couple years for work and then move on. For us, it’s been a great place to write music. Not as a direct result of the environment around us, but in a way that’s encouraged us to provide our very own soundtrack to growing up.”

As for what that entails, the group is quick to name-check everyone from Neil Young and Yo La Tengo to the Flaming Lips and Sonic Youth. Not to mention countless strains of Krautrock and the two albums they can all agree on: Talk Talk’s ‘Spirit of Eden’ and ’666′, a demented double LP from the Vangelis-led Aphrodite’s Child collective. While those artists may read like randomly selected record store references, Tripwires’ debut album doesn’t quote anything directly. Subconsciously maybe, but never as a nod to anyone but themselves, whether they’re sampling interstellar static (‘Slow Mo’), dodging dollops of feedback (‘Plasticine’), or floating through power chords and thunder-clapped storm clouds (‘Spacehopper’) all created at the Rare Book Room studio in New York by Deerhunter and Animal Collective producer Nicolas Verhnes.

“The main strength of this band is our closeness as friends,” they explain when asked about the individual strengths of each member. “It’s allowed us to stay strong as a unit, with very little influence from people on the outside. It’s pretty hard for anyone to worm their way in and gain our trust.”

That explains how Tripwires went from covering Slipknot-hey, we were all young once-during theirlunch break at school to slowly but surely hovering in the stratosphere between pedal-pushing shoegaze pop and pressure-cooked psych rock. And if the nearly eight minutes of experimentation that went into ‘Tinfoil Skin’ are any indication, they’re not done fine-tuning their tracks yet either. Not even a little bit.

“We’ve always joked that we wanted parts of our songs to sound like a hairdryer to the face,” they explain. “Having said that, we’re really interested in exploring how simple and stripped-back we can make things, using both approaches to make things sound as diverse as possible while still sounding like ‘us’.”

Due to public demand, 2013 will see Jonny Walker, singer songwriter, street culture activist and Britain’s best-known busker swapping street for stage for a series of spectacular indoor gigs kicking off at Camden Barfly.

Passionate about keeping public spaces open to the arts; Liverpool-born Jonny has dedicated a decade to delivering his soulful folk ballads on the streets of over one hundred towns and cities throughout the UK and Europe.

Jonny’s rich vocals, sensitive guitar playing (having been taught by the highly-acclaimed guitar master Jon Gomm) and hauntingly beautiful songs have captivated his ever-growing fan base, who have, in turn, propelled him into a Youtube sensation, with his songs receiving thousands of plays and his Facebook posts seen by millions.

Jonny has been featured on BBC and ITV news, the Guardian and extensive local publications, for his on-going campaign to overturn restrictive council policies that place burdens on buskers and damage our shared culture of street performance. His debut EP ‘This Is Not Me,’ has been met with sparkling reviews that reflect both his music and the man himself…

“Heartfelt, unpretentious and utterly charming”… Rocksucker

Jonny has been described as a heady mix of Dylan, Neil Young and the enigmatic Leonard Cohen. He is a natural storyteller with lyrics that challenge the depths..

“A modern day Ralph McTell as his ability to tell a story with conscience” … Liverpool Sound and Vision

His much awaited debut album is due for release later this year. Jonny will be performing several tracks from his new album at his forthcoming gigs.

THE COMPUTERS have confirmed the release date of their second album ‘LOVE TRIANGLES, HATE SQUARES’. …

THE COMPUTERS have confirmed the release date of their second album ‘LOVE TRIANGLES, HATE SQUARES’. The 11 track follow up to their debut ‘This Is The Computers’ is released on 29th April 2013 on One Little Indian – and the band have also announced a full headlining UK tour for May. Their latest single ‘Disco Sucks’ was the first taster for the record and received great reviews and plays on Radio 1/FM etc.

Recorded with producer Mark Neill (Black Keys) in Valdosta, Georgia the album mixes the bands love of rock and roll and soul and the energy of punk rock. From the frenetic (under 2 and half minutes!) rockabilly tinged “Uh Oh, Uh Oh” chorus and twang-tastic guitars on opening track ‘Bring Me The Head Of A Hipster’, the soul-pop and twinkling keyboards on ‘Nothing To Say’; the thunderous drums and Jerry Lee Lewis-esque piano on ‘Selina Chinese’ to the heartbreak lament of ‘CRUEL’, the album showcases the Exeter group’s riotous yet tuneful and infectious music.

Having already made a quick-stop tour of the UK in January, the band (Screaming Al, Sonny Crawford, Fred E Stare, Nice Ron, Aidan Sinn) head out for a 18 date trip round the country in May.

Thought Forms started making music together in Wiltshire back in Spring 2004 and 2013 sees …

Thought Forms started making music together in Wiltshire back in Spring 2004 and 2013 sees the release of their second album for Invada Records, “Ghost Mountain”.

It takes all of the first 80 seconds to realise that this is a group who have moved on substantially from their first release for the Bristol based label.
Indeed, if their self-titled album from 2009 was about finding the dynamic limits of their atmospheric sound, gently prodding and probing varying elements, then the huge great slab of guitar that greets you instantly on their follow-up roars with the confidence of a band who’ve found their level from which to fully explore their creative expression.

Charlie Romijn (guitars / vocals), Deej Dhariwal (guitars / vocals) and Guy Metcalfe (drums) have already made their mark live – cultivating a colossal sound that bands twice their number would struggle to re-create, with appearances at various ATP events and tour support slots with Portishead and Esben and the Witch in the past year.

The album veers between two opposites, from brisk, scuzzy American garage-rock influenced numbers to brutal, anguished noise constructions of ethereal doom, where it feels like they’re tapping into a similar dark psyche to groups like Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Circle. With a psych slant too informing tracks like ‘Afon’ and ‘Burn Me Clean’ – where vocals are almost as though a ritualistic call to on high – the scope of Ghost Mountain’s sonic terrain is vast, the result of a varied approach to song writing where wholes form out of group jams – in the case of ‘Burn Me Clean’ from an improvised set supporting Master Musicians Of Bukkake – or from the chrysalis of an idea presented by just one of the trio.

Thematically, the group are coy on the album’s meanings, though what is clear is that subject matters are extremely personal to a tight-knit band who consider each other “family”. What they do give away is somewhat cryptic; the album’s title comes from a gigantic mountain range as big as the Alps that’s hidden under the Antartic’s ice and snow; song titles are a little more illustrative, both in theme and in clues as to the group’s influences. ‘Afon’ is Welsh for river, the group explaining that it “speaks to us of connections and something which eternally changes yet remaining the same at the core”; ‘Only Hollow’ is a tip of the cap to My Bloody Valentine’s ‘Only Shallow’. Then there’s ‘O’, called that because of the shape of the letter, the group using it to represent what they call “a circle of negativity”.

Negativity would suggest a bleakness to this album, and whilst in much of Ghost Mountain’s fire and brimstone there is plenty that could be construed as despair, the abrasion in it suggests something more conflicted; a battle between shades of dark and light, universal but potent battles between love and hate, of hope and loss. When flung together with the power that Thought Forms has, it makes for a quite formidable proposition.

VEGA formed in the summer of 2009 and released their debut album “Kiss of Life” …

VEGA formed in the summer of 2009 and released their debut album “Kiss of Life” in 2010 to rave reviews across the board.

CLASSIC ROCK: “Melodic rock kings in waiting…”

MELODICROCK.COM: “One of the best debuts of 2010 and of the last few years”
…
ROCK REPORT: “This album is truly melodic rock master piece”

MALCOLM DOME: “Vega are a British melodic hard rock band who stand apart from most in this vein, because not only do they write melodic songs, but they’ve a significant depth. Debut album Kiss Of Life shows enough talent and cohesion to suggest a big future awaits.

The guys hit the road in support of the album and the rave reviews for the live show started arriving:

CLASSIC ROCK: “VEGA won over the crowd with anthems punchier than a Croydon hen party after a crate of Bacardi Breezers”

FIREWORKS: “I was transfixed by the quality of what I was hearing and seeing….”

POWERPLAY: “10/10 the band of the weekend”

In 2011 VEGA decided to go in search of a record company that shared their passion for trying to inject something new in to the rock genre, whilst still maintaining the 80’s/90’s roots that influenced them in the first place.

After a long search VEGA finally secured a worldwide deal with Nine Tone/UNIVERSAL RECORDS who will release their 2nd album in the autumn of 2012. Singer Nick Workman says “We wanted to write an album where every song could have been a single, so we have been spending a lot of time fine tuning the songs. We pretty much demoed each song twice before we were satisfied”. The new album will feature 13 tracks of hook laden “stadium rock songs” that deserve to be play loud enough to piss of your neighbours…………

As rock Journo Dave Ling say’s “These guys could have a major role to play in the future”!

Berlin Blonde are a six-piece band from Bromley in Greater London.

Crammed into a used Suzuki Estate the band have been playing gigs in and around London for a little while now. We don’t have a specific musical philosophy, but we share the need to try new things or shamelessly borrow from the past. A few of our songs were born out of improvising. The band’s sound is a mix of post-punk and psychedelic pop: fun, quirky, great to dance to and great to stare into space to.

Music industry bible Music Week has been backing a winner in this monthly night which …

Music industry bible Music Week has been backing a winner in this monthly night which gives a platform to up to seven new and breaking acts and has attracted up to 1,000 people nightly since its in October 2010. Breakout is over 2 years young and has now played host to over 260 acts with a total audiences of over 20,000 people – winning best independent UK promoter at the Live Music Awards 2011

Breakout’s monthly showcase for new and breaking acts staged by Music Week in conjunction with All Night Long Promotions returns on Thursday, July 11th 2013 at THE BARFLY, CAMDEN

As ever the night offers a host of unsigned and newly-signed acts catching the imagination of the industry & fans alike

MISTY MILLER Inspired by the likes of Patti Smith, Iggy and The Stooges, The Velvet Underground, Irma Thomas, The Sonics and the blues, Misty’s eclectic taste has informed a lot of her music to date. At the age of 15 she recorded her first album and released it on AWAL in 2011 that went on to sell 60,000 copies. Now, having signed to Sony label Relentless, she released the Girlfriend EP in February, a collection of songs that finds her embracing the gritty sound of 70s rock n roll The EPs title track was made ‘Next Hype’ by Zane Lowe and from supporting Jake Bugg and Tom Odell on tour, to recording a cover of The Turtles song “Happy Together” that was chosen by Burberry to open their London Fashion Week show, it’s been a whirlwind few months for Misty. With a growing army of fans including Radio 1’s Rob da Bank, Zane Lowe and Steve Lamacq, who made her his ‘New Favourite Band’ on 6Music, Misty is set to release her second EP “Next To You” which further showcases her prodigious musical talents and ambitions.

FRANK HAMILTON Frank Hamilton spent the whole of 2012 writing, recording and releasing one song a week. Supporters/collaborators include Ed Sheeran, Newton Faulkner, The Crimea, Lauren Aquilina, Mark Grist, Ryan Keen, Lyracis, Dion Dublin and many more… Most of the songs were recorded on a laptop in #OneSongaWeek HQ (Frank’s living room) and released every Friday along with a frightfully honest blog. The ‘Best of #OneSongaWeek’ album was rush-released on December 10th in response to iTunes choosing week 45′s song (Flaws & Ceilings) as their free single of the week. The album spent most of the week at #1 in iTunes singer/songwriter section (outselling Ed Sheeran, Jake Bugg, Gabrielle Aplin, Ben Howard etc) and reached #21 in the overall album chart, as well as #2 in Music Week’s Indie Breakers album chart. The project was 100% DIY, cost absolutely nothing (apart from the endless supply of tea-bags) and culminated in the first and last #OneSongaWeek live show at Camden Barfly (sold out) with some very special guests from the 52 weeks. This year he’s already sold out Upstairs @ The Garage, The Boderline, and is spending June supporting Lewis Watson, before returning to the Barfly on July 11th with Misty Miller and Stephen Kellogg at Breakout

STEPHEN KELLOGG Described as Americana, Country-Rock, Folk, Singer/Songwriter, and pop. Stephen sees himself as American-rock n’ roll. A product of his father’s record collection growing up in Northampton, MA, from Jim Croce and Cat Stevens to Eagles and The Band. Tom Petty being his favourite artist. In November of 2012, his band of the last ten years decided to take a hiatus, performing their final show at Webster Hall in New York City for three hours and said goodbye for now. 2012 was an eventful & often tragic one in his life &the musical result of this tumultuous period is Blunderstone Rookery, produced with my long-time musical collaborator, Kit Karlson and mixed by Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, Monsters of Folk) A record he loved working on more than any album he’s ever made. One that began with the exciting notion, “what if I say exactly what I want to say” and ended with him handing his father a vinyl copy to add to his record collection. That, after all, is why Stephen Kellogg does this. Using words and intention in the hopes of a positive legacy for his family.

PHREEDA SHARP Born in Ghana, brought up in Cambridge, now based in east London, French-Ghanaian Phreeda Sharp – or Sharp Shooter as her fans have dubbed her – is a force of nature when she gets behind a mic. Her inventive phrasing, her ability to rhyme within a rap is a fresh, feisty take on hip hop. Sharp’s raps are racy and raw, but they’re also packed with pop hooks. By the time Phreeda sold out Hoxton Bar & Kitchen last November, the likes of Time Out, Vibe Artist On The Rise, C4′s Freshly Squeezed and MTV were hailing her as one to watch. New tune ‘Gold Car’ has already kicked off with support from 1Xtra DJ Target’s Targo Embargo, Amazing Radio Record Of The Week, WeAreBang Radio and Westside FM playlists and a feature in Sunday Times Culture

ACOUSTIC STAGE

AMY HOLFORD After “the North East’s newest seductive songstress” supported the likes of Willy Mason, Lucy Rose and Jake Bugg in 2012, Amy Holford has spent 2013 writing and developing her music This 21 year old unapologetic young lady is ‘beginning to blaze a trail with honest lyrics, a simple sound, and a voice that leaves rooms silent. Amy has appeared on Amazing Radio & BBC Introducing Newcastle & her song ‘You Run’ was played recently on Radio 1 by Jen & Ally. Amidst all of her recent hometown success however is ‘a refusal to be categorised and compartmentalised and ignored’ indicating there is a lot more in store that listeners haven’t heard yet…

LESLIE MENDELSON Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Leslie Mendelson an adopted native of New York City was spotted by Joel Dorn, legendary Grammy Award winning producer and record label exec, who helped Mendelson sign a contract with Rykodisc Records. The young singer then , worked alongside hit songwriter Steve McEwan (Keith Urban, Faith Hill, Eminem) and award winning producer/arranger Rob Mounsey (Paul Simon, Mary J. Blige, Steely Dan) to shape the sound of her album, Swan Feathers which was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2009. Over the past three years, Leslie has played all over from Lincoln Center to Hotel Café and has shared the stage with legends such as Roberta Flack, Dr. John and Levon Helm from The Band. She is working on a new album to come out this year

State Of Play Fresh from their recent UK tour and with notable names such as …

State Of Play

Fresh from their recent UK tour and with notable names such as BBC London DJ, Gary Crowley, championing their cause, State of Play are set to unleash their new single, Children of the Sun.

Recorded in collaboration with producer James Routh of Sonic Boom Six, the track is an explosive summertime anthem, combing an insanely infectious melody with relentless beats to create a call to arms that stands up and demands to be moved to. True to the band’s nature, by the end of the three and half minute joy ride, the boundaries between genres are left thoroughly blurred…

With a shared mentality that belies the member’s varied backgrounds, State of Play map a vast musical territory, spanning from neo-soul, hip-hop and indie-rock to the fringes of EDM. Their sound, though impossible to pigeonhole, is utterly distinctive; the unique culmination of their myriad influences.

The group boasts a trio of vocalists, including the East London raised MC and wordsmith, Anthony (A-Mens) Mensah, the Edinburgh native Mellissa (Missy) McAnulty and Ahmar (S.V.) Ferguson, who brings the influences of his Jamaican Heritage to the table. This front-trio are backed by Alex (Fando) Fernandes, Will Kerr, Ben Spooner and Anthony Kent, all of whom were drawn to London to pursue their musical ambitions.

With the line up finalised by mid 2012, following a summer of festival appearances, their debut EP Welcome to the State was released in November of the same year. The single Sequel to a Bad Movie followed in April 2013, garnering a host of favourable reviews and winning air time on Amazing Radio amongst other stations. A UK tour conducted in the same month cemented the groups reputation for unforgettably engaging live shows and widened their fan-base further.

Final Form

Formed in 2012 via eclectic musical tastes, a mutual love of a mellifluous hook and a passion for great live sets. Our music combines lead vocals and backing harmonies with a tight rock band feel, interspliced with samples, synths and electronic effects which make a sound that will appeal to lovers of pop, indie, rock, electro and dance.

Final Form’s debut EP was released 1st January 2013 and there’s so much more to come.

BACKSTORY: The four piece Newtown misfits are misspending their youth while we watch. And it’s …

BACKSTORY:

The four piece Newtown misfits are misspending their youth while we watch. And it’s as colourful as that review suggests: a melodic, mega-hectic, mash of psychedelic, pop and roots. Music to throw shapes to.
THE Sydney based four piece (sometimes 5 piece), have been touring for two years, to increasing crowds and are delivering a refreshing vibe to Australian music. The band began their rise when drummer, Beaker and bass player Paddy Fingers, met busker Dylan Frost one night in early 09 outside the Coopers Arms hotel in Newtown.
Dylan, fresh from N.Z., was on the streets with his guitar busking outside the pub. “We met him,” Patty says, “when the Coopers Arms bouncer started telling us we should give him some money.” Frost’s melodic sense brings the Kiwi spirit and melodic lineage to the band. Frost, the youngest member of the band (the rest of the band are 20), has 19 years of life and a hundred years of heartbreak in his voice. And the band surround it in textural and psyche-y, atmospheric melodies punched out by the Sticky Finger’s rhythm section’s blunt sound scapes.

RECORDING:

In the short amount of downtime between tours in April 2012 and the start of June Sticky were back hard at work getting the songs together for their next release. From these sessions came Caress Your Soul the bands first single from the album of the same name and second single Clouds & Cream. Both got high rotation and charted.

And now … the band’s debut album Caress Your Soul has just been released – March 2013 – to a great response. It features the 3 radio hits including Caress Your Soul, the song that encapsulates their psychotic alt pop and sinister surf dub sound.

The first EP (the ironically titled), Extended Play was released late 2010. And their first release, in April 2010, they went into Megaphon studios and re-recorded Inspirational, Juicy Ones and Murderous Nerves, the best songs from their earlier demo’s.

Next was a limited edition Sticky acoustic recording, in amongst the musical ghosts of the Annandale: Happy Endings. Sti Fi had been promising to make it since they toured nationally with Donavan Frankenreiter and in January 2012 finally gave it to its fans. Happy Endings scored great support around the country and internationally, picking up a stack of JJJ and Unearthed play in the months following its Oct release and June 2012 and introducing Sticky to a wider audience.

RECENT SONGS:

Australia Street is the third and most recent single from the debut album and has been played on high rotation on JJJ, the clip for Aust street is another in the line of Sticky classics, a one take shot down the bands home stretch. The song is included on a couple of compilations and will be out with Waves magazine shortly.

Clouds & Cream, second single played widely across radio voted into JJJ’s second hottest 100 for 2012, a fan favourite.

Caress Your Soul - the first single from Sticky’s debut album, (also called Caress Your Soul), travelled the world for the band, getting airplay internationally. At home it was voted number 61 in JJJ’s Hottest 100 for the year and the clip is at over 200,000 views.

Happy Endings went out on a compilation in the U.S.with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero’s and abunch of other choice U.S. new comers.

FOR THE COMPARISON MINDED:

Psych/folk and pop/rock/roots. If the Clash, Pink Floyd and Arctic Monkeys are three beads of sweat that meet rolling down your back, Sticky Fingers are at the bottom licking it up.

It Prevails It Prevails is a five piece US metalcore/melodic hardcore band formed in late …

It Prevails

It Prevails is a five piece US metalcore/melodic hardcore band formed in late 2004 in the southwest area of a city called Portland, Oregon. The band draws influence from 90′s metal/hardcore and classic rock. Bands like Shai Hulud, Hopesfall, Beloved, Twelve Tribes, Posion The Well, and Hot Water Music were on constant rotation at hangouts during their inception. A premium was placed on lyrics related to struggles of the human condition and altruistic actions.

Ian Fike – Vocals

Joe Butler – Guit

Nic Toten – Nic Totem

Billy Badass – Bass

Nate George – Drums

American Me

Originally formed in Portland, Oregon as a side project of It Prevails in 2006, American Me ended up going full time to pursue a heavier endeavor. Since getting signed to Rise Records, the band has released 3 full length albums, the most recent of which being ( III ) and 1 EP, . American Me has toured the US since 2007-present, Japan in early 2011 and Europe Mainland + UK with Give’Em Blood in september 2012

Tony Tataje – Vocals
Brian Blade – Bass/Vocals
Cameron Bledsoe – Guitar
Duncan Allen – Drums

Give ‘em Blood

GIVE EM BLOOD is a young and motivated Metal/Hardcore band, straight out of Austria! The 5-headed formation started out in early 2009 and longs to grab any chance to spread their music all over the world. Turning their backs on any scene-clichÈ, GIVE EM BLOOD is creating their own mixture of melancholic and emotional choruses and pushing breakdowns. When it goes down to shows there is no country too far away for these guys to delight their audience with their energetic live performance. In late 2010 they released their first split release with Dos dias de Sangre on the German label Beatdownhardwear records. After two European tours (here comes the kraken, silent screams) and countless single/weekender shows they released their first full Album called SEVEN SINS on Bastardized recordings in September 2012. They just returned from their co-headlining Tour with American me and a short Germany weekender with the acacia strain.

Celebrating their 10th year as one of independent music’s most substantive bands, Louisville’s Coliseum return with their fourth full-length, the stunning Sister Faith, to be released on April 30 on Temporary Residence Ltd. Expanding on the anthemic direction the trio veered toward on 2010′s House With a Curse, the album’s 13 songs are the most dynamic and immediately captivating of the band’s career, bristling with galvanizing melodies at the collision point between punk and noise-rock.

The first album to be recorded in producer J. Robbins’ recently relocated Magpie Cage Studios, Sister Faith is also the first Coliseum recording to feature new bassist, Kayhan Vaziri, in addition to contributions from some of the group’s closest friends and musical peers: Wata of Boris, J.
BEASTS are coming back to Camden Barfly this August 13th, after their last sell out show, …

BEASTS are coming back to Camden Barfly this August 13th, after their last sell out show, to launch their debut self titled EP, out August 12th on Avatone Records.

Produced by the band themselves, alongside acclaimed producer Bill Gautier (The Cure), the four track record clocks in under the 20 minute mark and serves as a fitting introduction. Be it the roomy groove-laden riff monster ‘Everybody Knows’, the infectious refrain of ‘Shades Of Blue’, the broody ‘Sub Rosa’ or the soaring closer ‘Drowning In Puddles’, there’s no shortage of promise on display.

What’s even more exciting is that the band, with a combined age of just over 60, are far more concerned with the art of classic songwriting and musicianship than any throwaway trend or movement. As frontman, Joe Mallory-Skinner states, “we don’t like focusing on gimmicks or following trends. We’ve made an EP that reflects what we want to be hearing… A nod to a time when rock was truly alive!”

Mandala: few titles are as perfectly befitting an album for a band reaching the culmination …

Mandala: few titles are as perfectly befitting an album for a band reaching the culmination of a decade-long musical transformation. With this recording, RX Bandits have truly struck the essence of their merging of genres into a complete and masterfully detailed mosaic.

The metamorphic rock group’s latest disc showcases a more rock-oriented quartet, while deftly sweeping in elements of Latin, prog-rock, punk, rock to dub and blues. The much anticipated follow-up to 2006’s …And The Battle Begun jettisons ahead of where the last left off, scaling back the use of horns and adding more focus on balance and powerful dynamics. Songs like album opener “My Lonesome Only Friend” easily shift from entrancing chimes to full-on syncopated rock fury (replete with a molten John MacLaughlin-meets-Kirk Hammett guitar solo.) Elsewhere, blustery blasts of metallic guitars give way to swirling, proggy synths on “Hearts That Hanker For Mistake.” Electric piano leads the blues-dub “March of the Caterpillar” while “Breakfast Cat” boasts the tightest rhythm guitar strumming and grooving drums this side of The Meters.

In an age where taking risks and being fearless can make or break you, RX have emerged as a tidal wave, a force that shatters all the boundaries set against them. Throughout their decade long career, the group has reinvented and revolutionized their identity while retaining their socially conscious lyrics and eruptive instrumentation. This concept has been the catalyst for the band’s ever-growing fanbase, which revels in their uniqueness and continue to storm their celebrated, incendiary live shows. RX Bandits’ performance on the main stage at Bonnaroo in 2007 proved the band’s majesty to a new audience, while myriad tours with the likes of Portugal The Man, Tera Melos, Fall of Troy, et al, have built the quartet’s considerable fan base over the years.

Tracking for Mandala took place at The Mouse House Studio in Northern Pasadena in March of 2009, and marked the return of producer Chris Fudurich to the fold. The album features dramatically hypnotic artwork by Sonny Kay.

RX Bandits first emerged in 1999, forming in Orange County, CA. The young band, fresh out of high school had already been signed to a woefully disastrous recording contract under a different name in a previous incarnation. As the band’s music rapidly matured, its label didn’t — leading to many years’ strife and struggle to stick to their guns and release the music they wanted. Three albums (Halfway Between Here and There, Progress and The Resignation… the seething sentiments in the titles are quite telling) and nearly 7 years later, the band was freed of its bondage to self-release …And The Battle Begun on its own MDB Records imprint via Sargent House in 2006. Live From Bonnaroo, a digital iTunes exclusive release followed in December 2007. On July 21st, 2009, Mandala was released on Sargent House. Then, on April 17th, 2010 a live acoustic EP called RX Bandits Live From Park Avenue CDs was released as a limited edition exclusive for Record Store Day, the band played Coachella on that same day in conjunction with it’s release also on Sargent House.

THE DEVIL IN YOUR HEART” is a high five to the inconsolable in all of …

THE DEVIL IN YOUR HEART” is a high five to the inconsolable in all of us, a celebration of triumph and relief, born through the eyes and ears of three musicians who had to go there to come back. THE DEVIL IN YOUR HEART is the fist pumping new album from London alt-rockers, Zico Chain.

“As soon as I screamed those lyrics, I knew right then that I had the album title,” says Chris Glithero. “It encompassed every feeling I’d had during the making of this record”.

“ The title sounds like a negative” adds Oli Middleton “but this album is about wisdom, and it’s relentlessly optimistic”.

THE DEVIL IN YOUR HEART is a self produced labor of love. Having given up everything to pursue the unknown, the band bedded down in various derelict buildings around the UK and began recording.

“We never went near a studio. We were sat in an empty house in winter, with ants everywhere and no heating, but our amps were still buzzing and we were talking about how we could find a way to record an orchestra” adds Chris.

The band realized every seemingly impossible ambition and went on to work with award winning string arranger Audrey Riley, who’s impressive resume includes collaborations with rock giants such as Muse and Foo Fighters.

The result is a self-made and self-funded lap of honor, an achievement of truly epic proportions. Armed with their hard earned formidable live reputation and their relentless DIY ethics, it’s almost impossible to imagine ZICO CHAIN not climbing to the greatest heights and beyond in 2012.

ZICO CHAIN just signed a deal with Holland based Suburban Records to release The Devil In Your Heart in Europe. The album will hit the streets on April 16th 2012!

ZICO CHAIN are – Chris Glithero (Bass, Vocals); Paul Frost (Guitars); Oli Middleton (Drums).

Born Piet Goddaer in Kortrijk in 1970, he was the son of classical and jazz composer Norbert Goddaer, and began playing saxophone and piano at age six. He and brother Jan played in several bands while still young, and he scored several underground hits under varying aliases. He began recording as Ozark Henry in 1996, and his Sony debut five years later, Birthmarks, became a hit on the strength of the hit singles “Rescue” and “Sweet Instigator.” Subsequent albums performed better and better, including a pair of chart-toppers, 2006′s The Soft Machine and 2010′s Hvelreki. ~ Jason Ankeny
